A copy of the Magna Carta manuscript dating back to the 13th century has sold for £10.6m at an auction at Sotheby’s in New York to an American businessman.

This copy of the Magna Carta is one of only 17 existing copies of the iconic 800-year-old English royal manuscript.

Magna Carta was the most significant early influence on the extensive historical process that led to the rule of constitutional law today.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A rare 710-year-old copy of the Magna Carta, among the most important historical documents ever to hit the auction block, sold for $21.3 million on Tuesday at Sotheby’s.
